Google +1 Reporting with Webmaster Tools

Google is diving into the social networking initiative with the Google+ Project. Google has made it possible to add a +1 button to websites that have been verified through the Google Webmaster Tools. Google’s efforts are considered direct competition with Facebook’s Like button, but with better analytic tools for social media tracking.

I did some quick research and located a nice video that Google put out about the +1 button. Check it out:

Responsive Web Design

I have been learning about Responsive Web Design. As defined by in an article posted on Smashing Magzine:

“Responsive Web design is the approach that suggests that design and development should respond to the user’s behavior and environment based on screen size, platform and orientation.”

With the rapid increase of mobile device users the need to design for more than one environment is apparent. Designing for the Web has never been easy, first it was the limitations that print designers like myself found hard to accept when designing for the Internet. Next, and still today, the way different browsers display the same website differently. Now add to that the fact that more and more viewers are visiting websites with tablets and smart phones (which have about as many variations as the web browsers when it comes to displaying differently) and it becomes clear that the challenges of being a responsible web designer are complex.

Responsive Web DesignBut knowledge is power and education is the first step to creating better websites for this ever-changing industry. There is a buzz about Responsive Web Design in our community and I for one will be learning more and moving forward with this new train of thought for my designs.

For more information on Responsive Web Design here are a few links that I found interesting:

New Presentation Designed for State Life & Health Agency

Recently I posted on a new way to create presentations. One that adds dimensional motion and smooth animation and is relatively easy to use. I recently was contracted by a fellow BNI member to create a speaker presentation for my networking group.

This just goes to prove that Life and Term insurance CAN BE entertaining while passing a ton of information to the audience.

Hope you get a chance to view it!

Note: To view, start by clicking on the large arrow. Next, click on word MORE in the lower right corner for viewing options. Selecting AUTOPLAY will run the Flash presentation as a movie, with 4 second intervals.

Winning in the New ‘Marketing Democracy’

I just read an insightful article on marketing. With so many options today it is refreshing to be reminded of sound principles of marketing.

With the right strategies, however, Suther said companies can successfully navigate this tumultuous world to reach their target customers. He cited a few of the most well-known strategies. For one, they should personalize their marketing to consumers instead of blasting them with broadly targeted ads.

I hope you will take a moment to read it, good stuff. Click on the link below to reach the article.

Facebook Fan Pages (“Business Pages”) and Static FBML

Anyone, including myself, who is focusing more on Facebook for marketing will find this posting of value. In the past when I have viewed Facebook business pages I could not understand how to take advantage of this super popular platform for displaying a well-designed marketing message with useful navigation. So I started searching for more clarity on this subject.

I found a couple of websites that lead me to information on Static FBML. Static FBML is an application available free on Facebook that when added allows users to post HTML content (like you would see on a web site) right on your Facebook fan page. What does all of this mean? Well think of it as an ad on your main Facebook Fan page that can be linked to your website. Or even create a mini website that resides right on your Facebook Fan/Business page!

Below are a couple of examples I found on Hyperarts’ facebook fan page. Click on the images to visit each Fan page:

Best Bowling in Fort Lauderdale is at Manor Lanes Bowling Center

I love to bowl. Been doing it since I was a kid when my brother and I joined our first youth league at Imperial Bowl, then located on Federal Highway in Dania, FL. But for the last 10 years my favorite place to bowl by far has been Manor Lanes Bowling Center in Wilton Manors, Florida. A true old-school alley with only 20 lanes, Manor Lanes is a throw back to the good old days.

Manor Lanes Bowling Center, Fort Lauderdale, FL

Nostalgic design reflects bowling's good ole days.

Recently I finished the redesign of their website. The new design conveys a nostalgic feeling of an alley that has been around since 1958. But don’t think that Manor Lanes has not seen it’s share of improvements. The alley boasts synthetic lanes & approaches, a great sound system with a jukebox that taps into the Internet for the play list, and glow bowl every Friday and Saturday night rockin’ til the wee hours of the morn. It is also worth mentioning that the food served at their snack bar is absolutely delicious with large portions, something rarely found in bowling alleys. Oh, did I forget to mention that Manor Lanes also has the Sports Den Pub attached with a huge 10-foot TV screen, 17 H/D monitors, pool table and darts?

So check out their website at http://www.manorlanesfl.com and add Manor Lanes Bowling to your list of places to go for fun.
